Midterms are right around the corner for college students, which means it is time to pack your favorite all-nighter snacks and head to the library. I recently went to W.A. Frost in Saint Paul and indulged in their cheese, fruit and assorted nut plate. I highly recommend! After my visit I found myself craving it while studying late one night, so I decided to create my own.
I purchased all of the plate fixings at my local Cub Foods. I recommend Cub for their prices and frequent sale options.
To begin I decided to pick what sounded good. In situations like this, go grocery shopping when you are hungry. I choose a sharp cheddar cheese, large unseeded grapes, honey crisp apples and unsalted pecan's.
Start to Finish -Five Minutes (only prep is to cut apple into slices and cheese into squares)
Money Spent to make: $1.30
Calories per plate: 70 calories per plate
Midterm Munchies:
12 small squares of sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup large unseeded grapes
1 whole sliced honey crisp apples
12 pieces (or one cup) of unsalted pecans
Begin by washing your hands and using a serrated knife to cut the squares of sharp cheddar cheese. Arrange on a small plate. Continue by using a different knife to cut the honey crisp apples into pieces, or wedges. Be sure to wash the apple and the grapes before distributing onto the plate. Arrange the unsalted pecans into the middle of the plate.
This plate is completely vegetarian and gluten free. It can be made vegan if you replace the cheese with a different fruit or nut assortment. It is also a great shareable snack for study dates.
I just helped make your late night study session into a fancy snack for you and friends.
Bon Appetite my fellow students!
I loved this idea so much I went out and bought the ingredients after reading your post. It's easy, filling, tasty and I don't feel too guilty after eating it. Thanks for the recommendation!
